Our
Story
Kingsley Manor is Hollywood’s oldest retirement community – a true treasure. At our inception in 1912 this was just a quiet farming community lined with country roads and orange groves. Four acres of prime land, in what is now known at South Hollywood, was donated by a group of German Methodists and soon hundreds of shade trees were planted, a tabernacle erected and a bungalow building plan executed. Founders Margaret and Conrad Ammann, local landowners and leading community members, felt a strong desire to fulfill the injunction, “Freely ye have received, freely give.” And by 1919, our unique retirement community was officially in operation.
As Hollywood soon began growing into the film and entertainment capital of the world, Kingsley Manor soaked up the town’s vibrant personality and cultivated a rich tradition and history of its very own. The mystique of old Hollywood will wash over you as you stroll through Kingsley’s stately ivy-covered brick buildings and beautifully landscaped grounds. With wrought iron fences, detailed architecture and dignified statues, Kingsley Manor today blends the best elements of history and nostalgia with the advantages and amenities of modern living.

Old world character and a spirit of giving, new world care and comfort – these are the hallmarks of Kingsley Manor.
Kingsley Manor is part of the Front Porch family of retirement communities and is supported philanthropically by the Pacific Homes Foundation. A pioneer of modern retirement, Kingsley Manor is the ideal place to live. |
